We found no Oregon-specific law on cell-cultivated meat or plant-based meat labels that we could confirm against an official source as of October 2026. That doesn't prove none exists: bills move quickly. Federal rules still apply everywhere; see who regulates meat labels, and check the National Agricultural Law Center's state compilation and the Oregon legislature's website for the latest.
Yes. Oregon runs its own State Meat and Poultry Inspection (MPI) program, one of 31 states that do. State programs must be "at least equal to" federal inspection, and state-inspected products can be sold within Oregon. The state program covers meat only, so poultry plants in Oregon that need inspection are inspected by USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). (USDA FSIS list of state inspection programs)
Either way, plants under federal inspection can sell anywhere in the U.S., and custom-exempt meat processed for an owner's own household is marked "Not for Sale." On a package, a USDA mark of inspection with an establishment number means federal inspection, and a state mark means state inspection. See what to look for on a package.
